Overview
The Preowned product team had multiple ideas for optimizing the content creation process to meet a new, cost-effective business goal. However, they lacked a shared understanding of what specific product information truly mattered
to both our buyers and our sellers. This ambiguity was preventing the team from defining a clear problem space and prioritizing a path forward in product development.
Research Approach
I designed and executed a mixed-methods research study
for this phase of the project. I conducted in-depth interviews and ran concept tests to evaluate different buyer and seller flows. I also collaborated with the team to test UX copy and validate our qualitative findings with onsite data.
My goal was to provide the team with the necessary research insights to confidently narrow down
their product scope for the first milestone and provide the clarity the team needed to move forward with a unified vision.
Impact
My research provided the data-driven foundation that allowed the team to start building with confidence and a clear, user-centered roadmap.
Our recommendation to clearly communicate product images to build trust and transparency became a core focus of the next design iteration. The research also armed the team with the data they needed to confidently proceed with a user-generated content A/B test—a direction they were hesitant to pursue before. Ultimately, my work transformed a business challenge into a clear, user-centered strategic direction.

My Learnings & Reflections
I gained a deeper appreciation for how
user research can directly inform both business and design decisions
, and I loved seeing my work impact the overall pre-owned service offering.Working with a fast-paced product team
was an eye-opening experience thatsharpened my ability to deliver timely, actionable insights.
It was incredibly rewarding to see product managers and content designers take the initiative to run their own targeted follow-up research, which demonstrated a
growing research-minded culture within the team.
This project provided me with the opportunity to run my
first in-person study,
a valuable experience that added a new skill to my toolkit.
